Chapter 1: What Is Super-G?
Meet Super-G
Super-G is a ski race on a snowy mountain. ⛷️
It mixes:
- The high speed of Downhill
- The tighter turns of Giant Slalom
Skiers race one at a time. The fastest time wins.
They follow a marked path called a course, set by red and blue gates they must pass.
Key idea: Super-G is all about speed + control.

Super-G vs Other Ski Races
Think of ski races as cars on roads:
- Slalom: tiny, twisty street, many quick turns
- Giant Slalom: wider road, smoother turns
- Super-G: highway, few turns, very fast
- Downhill: super highway, fastest of all
Super-G is faster than Giant Slalom, but a bit slower than Downhill.

Where Do They Race?
Super-G needs a big, steep hill with:
- Hard, packed snow
- Safety nets and pads
- A clear start at the top
- A safe finish at the bottom
Workers smooth the snow with snowcats at night.
Key idea: The hill must be fast but safe.
